Default The Mangy Moose is DONE! OKAY MAYBE NOT!

After just 8 days…..I have called it quits. Not because I want to, but all of the trees have budded. I was hoping to wait for the next cool down, whenever that is……but the trees just couldn't wait. Go figure, temps in the 70's and 80's! Nighttime temps in the 60's too. I am sooo disappointed, but it is truely difficult with these awesome MARCH temps. God only knows what is coming for us all in the weather catagory. Till next year folks!

that is what my season felt like as well. I had two decent runs and only 6 boils total. and here I was thinking that I didnt have enough wood! I didnt even burn 1/4 of what I have....Will save me time this year having to do sapwood I guess! This year will be nice as I can spend my time running another short mainline and more lats and then tweaking what I already have.

The mangy mike z is done too. I collected 120 g. yesterday; it was getting pretty cloudy. The green smell of buds was faint in the air as I evaporated. Couldn't taste it though. I finished evaporating the pans and added the vineger. I did check the buckets today. Probably could have gathered another 50 g., but the woods trails are breaking down and the sap is not getting any clearer. Can't wait till next year, only 370 days or so to go. (Next year might be more then year away).

Sorry to hear you northern neighbors didn't get any kind of a year. I thought we had a pathetic season down here in the southern end of the state, but apparently we had a bonanza compared to what you all got. Maybe next year will be better.

Packed it in today, made 131 gallons of an expected 250-260. Hard to imagine canning syrup wjile there are so many mosquitos biting!!!! All the ones who are thrilled by this onslaught of summer weather wil be rethinking when they figure out the best season of all wil be the bugs for 9 months this year.

Well gramma I am hanging it up today. With these temps even if the sap is clear coming out I can't hold it at all. At least I won't have to make wood for next yr as adk stated.
It will take a couple of days to clean up and shutdown

If The Last Woodsman is throwing in the towel, I think it's over. Grama C. if you are all out of syrup let me know, after I bottle up what I have here, I'd be glad to share with you, a fellow Sugarbusher. Can't image not having syrup.

It's none of my business, but discussions have slowed so... What are you doing up at 4:45 am Gramma Cindy? I know you weren't boiling all night?
