Default NW Wisconsin 2019

It's hard not to be anxious with the warm temps, but we have a reported 80" of frost in the ground and 2 feet of settled snow. I put in 9 taps this morning, the holes were moist.
Our overnight temp was 32 F. The forecast is promising, just like every year.

Default Trees are waking up

I've got about 45 bags out so far, I'd guess 15 gallons of sap out there. Our snow has settled a lot in a week.

Hey Wild River:
Here in North Central WI our trees just woke up in the last three days. Getting about half of the trees running and a little stingy yet but think things are starting Jay

Default Boiling

I'll have about 100 gallons collected tomorrow and will boil for a few hours. I still can't get into the bulk of my trees because of snow.

Default The season so far.

Because of the snow depths, I put out half my usual bags. There may be 150 taps. I have about 22 gallons of syrup plus the sweet in the evaporator. The sap should run again this weekend but it doesn't look good past the middle of the month--too warm at night.

Default A good year

We will end up with about 50 gallons of syrup from 150 taps, the best we've ever done with so few taps. Sap is running today and I'm heading out to collect for a boil tonight.

Default update

Counted our sap sacks and we had 164 hanging. I finished off what was left in the evaporator by using the finishing pan and kept the fluted pan isolated and full of water, this was a lot better than using my propane turkey fryer. We pulled our taps on Sunday. The sap ran yesterday and will probably do so again this weekend. We're out of firewood. It was a great year and hopefully, next year, I remember to not believe long range forecasts. We made close to 60 gallons.
