Default NW Wisconsin

I started tapping Tuesday, we had 2" of snow last night. Most bags have a quart or two of sap in them. No snow to walk thru this year. Our forecast looks hopeful. I must have about 225 bags out.

Default Slow going

We've collected and boiled 240 gallons so far, a quick walk this morning showed a few full bags at the field edges. I'll start collecting again in a while. We had +9 degrees a few mornings ago and rain last night.

I've collected 680 gallons of sap so far, 15 gallons of syrup made. I think we'll be lucky to get 25 gallons this year.

Default Not done yet

Over a thousand gallons of sap and 24 gallons of syrup in jugs, we may have another sap run Wed-Friday. It's been slow going but easy to keep up.

We don't have that much here in Hayward. I have made just over 13 gallons so far. Like you said, real easy to keep up with season. It has sure been weird. Weather is good but no runs to speak of. Do we need rain? I think so with the mild winter and spring so far. I am not ready to quit yet. All the trees I have tapped do not have any buds on them yet. Thinking we will get some more sap yet.

We had 27 degrees this morning and sap is dripping pretty good, should do better tomorrow. We'll collect on Saturday and pull all the taps.

Default Finishing up

My Grand kids helped pull the taps and collect the last sap yesterday. Thursday - Friday sap run gave us another 300 gallons. The syrup I made yesterday was pretty dark. We'll be somewhere over 35 gallons of syrup when I finish off what is left in the evaporator. Frogs were peeping in the swamp last night, it was time to quit.

Default Pulled taps

Pulled my taps the other day and am in the middle of cleanup. This is the first time since I have been doing this (16 years) that there was no buds on the trees yet. Anyone else around Hayward notice this as well. We got half our usual amount of syrup this year. Doesn't surprise me after what I have read on here.

Default A Good Year in Winter

Pulled my taps on 4-2. Wish I had waited a week. Made 13 gal. of the best tasting syrup since 2014. Sap averaged 2.5 to 2.7. Never had any big runs. Boiled 6 times, never more than 90 gal. of sap off 56 taps. 3rd year with no snow.
