Tapped 35 on Saturday...about half were starting to run. Looking forward to a boil this coming weekend. That first sap is always the best!

Heading up tonight after work to do a bucket check. Probably will cook down whatever we can collect tomorrow am.

Perfect weather for traveling, not so much for sap flow.

First weekend report:

We collected about 28-30 gallons out of 35 taps. Which, from the reports I've read elsewhere, means that once again, our trees are running earlier than everyone else's. I've noticed this to be pretty constant over the 10 years we've been doing this.

Drinks were made, stories were told, traditions were upheld. Only one tap was moved, we think we had a 'poser'. You know, one of those trees that desperately wants to be a Sugar Maple but isn't? We had one empty bucket on a known maple, and one bucket with about 4 gallons in it. Most had somewhere between 1/2 gallon and 2 gallons. Ended up with about 3/4 gallon of very light syrup. I love that light, first run syrup...so sweet!!! The buckets are back in the trees, we'll see what next weekend brings.

Third weekend report. 3 gallons from 35 taps...plus some sap leftover to boil next weekend (we had to leave early Sunday). Man, I love our trees.

Weekends 4 and 5:

4 - I couldn't make it up there, my maple partner Roy and his friend Jeff went up, yield 3 gallons, one pint.

5 - We pulled taps and did the final boil, yield 2.75 gallons.

Found that we had only tapped 33 trees.

Around 12 and a half gallons of syrup from 33 trees. Not a bad season at all.

See ya next year!
