Default Tapping bits

Thought I would pass on my opinion of a tapping bit I started using this year. I think I have tried every maple tapping bit out there. This year I got Bolduc tapping bits from the local maple supplier. Without a question this is the best tapping bit I have used thus far. A bit pricy but the time savings and the holes it drills are well worth the xtra cost. Maple tree tapping bits | Les Mèches Bolduc

Which length did you use? The idea of a bit that does not drill deeper than 2" without a drill stop sounds interesting. It may reduce the incidence of broken bits too. I've never broken a bit but I've had workers break 1 or 2 a year. The one this year was when the ground was coated with ice and his foot slipped. We then added ice cleats.

The ones that only drill 2 inches. On hard maples it stops at 2 inches, on soft maple it tends to go a little deeper if you let it. However this bit is easily controlled as far as depth. It doesnt pull n bind like most other maple tapping bits i have used. Its just smooth as can be and fast cutting.

Totally agree. The Bolduc bits are among the best tapping bits available.

We've got our bit's from bascoms & everyone has been very happy with them. I think they call them ",Canadian" bit's. Wonder if they are the same thing.

Its a different bit than the canadian bits. Those where my go to bit till this year. The Canadian bit works well, but this Bolduc bit really impressed me.

Thanks regor0 but with the shipping and tax it comes to $36.90. A little too steep for me. I guess I'll stay with my Canadian tapping bit.
