Default 3/16 on high vacuum

Has anyone used 3/16 on high vacuum ? I have installed 1 inch main line and I have a Airblo vacuum pump . My Lateral lines are 3/16 because thats what I used on shurflo pumps . I was just going to use them because they were there aprox 600 taps or should I switch to 5/16 .

Thank you

Your 3/16 should work fine. There can be a cumulative effect on vacuum to the taphole. Drawback may be problems with 3/16 fittings getting clogged with shavings or "gunk".

Benefit are lower cost of tubing and potentially higher vacuum level (if set up correctly).

Drawback is that sanitation is more critical than in 5/16", and flushing with sanitizer is necessary each year to reduce plugging of fittings in order to maintain high levels of production.

On my 3/16 I replace the taps every year and the drops/tees are changed every 2 years. My 3/16 all have 3/16 x 3/16 x 5/16 tees and use 5/16 drops and taps. On my 5/16 I change taps every year, drops and tees every 3 or 4 years. I finds these do well for me. I did try the Zap Bac taps for the first time on some this year, they will be changed after 3 seasons as a sort of test. Those that are on 3/16 laterals will still get new Tees after 2 seasons.
