Default Bought a new pump.

So I finally pulled the trigger on a new pump for our new lease woods...... unfortunately I wasn't ready for MES to send out my new Atlas Copco. GVS 40'so quickly. Had to make some quick phone calls to get it unloaded from the truck. I'll post some pics when I finally get to see it for myself.

Moser congrats on the purchase! Does it also count as a birthday or Christmas present for your wife...
But seriously do these pumps require a releaser or is it like a shurflo?

The pump needs a releaser and moisture trap. A silvery electric moisture trap came with the pump, but I have an extra mechanical moisture trap kicking around so I'm going to plumb in both to make sure no sap makes its way to the pump. I'll also be using an electric releaser on this woods.

One of the problems with some of the high vacuum pumps is that they are quite sensitive to liquid infiltration. We learned (the hard way), that some moisture traps don't work so well in freezing weather. If a little sap blows by over time, or moisture condenses in the lines and is slowly sucked in, it can accumulate in the trap and freeze. When that happens, the ball can get trapped in the ice and not rise up and block off the passage to the pump if you do get some sap movement into the vacuum lines. This means the sap can make it to the pump....with bad results (or worse than bad depending on the pump and how sensitive it is to liquid).

We're fortunate in that we found a way to move our (primary) pumps INSIDE a heated space, which not only solves the problem of liquid freezing in the moisture trap, but also makes it far easier to do maintenance on the pump and programming of the VFD as needed. We also use two moisture traps now....one at the releaser and another unit by the pump (a few hundred feet away). Ain't no moisture making it into our pumps again! For our other pumps that have to be in an unheated space, we put heat tape around the moisture trap to keep it from freezing.
