Default UTV for sap and more

just wanted to post a pic of why I love our Kubota RTV 900. I know it's not a tractor, and we love our tractors, but this is handy when it comes to doing jobs around the farm.

Moser- how is that sucker hauling sap in maple weather? I want to pick up a side by side for multiple purposes, maple with kids, hunting with kids, and plowing snow. Those things appear to be twice the work machine of most utvs, but they are considerably heavier and have less ground clearance than most. I assume 150 gallons of sap in that might be difficult in march? What are your experiences with it in that regard?

Because of the weight and ground clearance I'm leaning towards the deere xuv, there are a couple different variations. They seem to be lighter and more ground clearance yet still be a "work machine".

tires with chains work great in late season, but what made it really awesome was when we bought the track kit for it. raised our rear ground clearance by 5 1/2 inches.

now i'll admit these are not a great off roading machine, and only do 25 mph tops. you also have to cut stumps off real low when making new trails for when tires are on, but the hauling capacity of these things are just awesome.
on our main woods roads when we are cleaning up at the end of the season we will drive the rtv 900 with a 1/2 275 gal tote of water on the back and a full 275 on a trailer behind we are towing.
we have tried a full 275 on the back and worked, but it was awful light on the front end.

Pretty sure you can go with bigger tires and/or a lift kit if you need more clearance. I was going to ask if it was possible to put tracks on a UTV. That. is. SWEET.

Jake, I have thought about tracks for our rtv. What do you see as pro's & con's? I know they are an expense but wondered about mud. I have problems in the winter with snow over mud not letting the ground freeze even in cold temps. We end up with so much ice & frozen mud we need to heat them up & wash out ice/mud then repeat in a few days or so. Seems like it would be worse with tracks. Any advice would be appreciated.

the biggest con with tracks is the maintenence of them. It seems like we are always replacing bearings with them, but it's a relatively easy and cheap thing to do, so I consider it as annual maintenence.
pros
you get more traction, higher ground clearance, better weight distribution.

In you case Karl you may have a challenge with snow over mud freezing. It would be like a snowmobile. I think you would want to make sure that the tracks are clear of large quantities of muddy snow (can't think of a better way to explain) before you put it up for the day. We just make sure the tracks are clear in our case, if they are real bad we'll spray them off.
Hope this helps
