Default Anyone using a pool filter with glass beads as a prefilter?

At the Hyde Park maple conference, a sugarmaker from Quebec (well, he had some position in the federation) - one thing he mentioned was that some people use pool filters for prefilters when the sap starts to get funky in the warmer days.

For media, they use glass beads instead of sand because the glass beads can be washed.

Is anyone doing this? I'm curious how you set it up and where you put it. (This isn't for my operation, but for another one up the road that I help out at a bit)

Joel bout in is the guys name. He is an extension maple specialist. Did not go to his speech. But I hear of some using pool filters/now and then at Bascom's in the used section area you would see 1 or 2 for sale.
