Default Springtech RO Soap Quantity and Netralization

The manual for my Springtech Elite 500 calls for 4 oz. of Sani Membrane soap per wash. I assume this is by weight but would like to clarify that. I would prefer to measure the soap by volume, so does anyone off hand know how much?

Also, what are others using to neutralize this soap prior to dumping the wash water? The UVM extension guidelines suggest using baking soda at an 8:1 ratio for this soap but that is a pretty large quantity of baking soda. Any other ideas?

Totally understand you have a Leader product/RO Machine and they will recommend what they want you to buy to maintain your membrane/but find out who made the membrane that is inside the vessel and go to that manufactures webside and see what they recommend for the first and 2nd choice of cleaners to wash the membrane.

Leader is in the business to sell you what they believe you need but it is the manufacture of the membrane that really knows what it takes to due the best possible job.

I hear you. I actually got the machine used and it came with a brand new tub of soap so I would like to use it up. Spoke to a fellow sugarmaker two towns over that has LOTS of springtech experience and he says 4 oz. by volume.

Springtech is not necessarily a Leader product though.

Who else sells the springtech brand name besides leader??? No one so it must be a brand they exclusively sell. Although the don't actually make the RO themselves.

If you got a msds sheet from Leader it will tell you what exactly the sani membrane is made from. Its like saying I can sell you some billy Bob RO soap with a fancy label for 3-4x the price as what you could really get sodium hydroxide for.

Leader is in the marketing game anyways. There are a lot of sheep farmers out there.

I would just take a minute to thank Kevin Sargenton this forum. He has so much knowledge about RO's it is amazing. He and Jerry Masterson are probably as much or more knowledgeable about them as anyone in the industry. I soap wash mine every day with ONE TABLESPOON of pure sodium hydroxide food grade. I bought 3 lbs off ebay for $ 13 thanks to Kevin's recommendation that it should be soap washed every day. Every day the filter in RO gets cleaner as I change them every day. For $ 2.20 @ Filter it lets me watch how clean the membrane is and make better syrup changing them every day. The 3 lbs will probably last me 3 years washing every day and if I had bought from Leader, it would have probably cost me 20 times that much as their soap is buffered and takes a lot more. I have a digital PH meter and wash between 11 and 12, closer to 11. Kevin has taken a lot of time in PM's to help me with things to do on my RO and saved me probably a lot of problems and grief down the road. You can chose to listen to him or not, but I appreciate his knowledge.

Once again I get it. You made your point. I was given the soap for free so I will use it all up.

D+G machines are springtech.
