Default Ro assistance

Ran 400ish gallon of water thru RO before running sap thru it. When I ran the sap thru it, I never could get permeate flow as high as the concentrate flow even running it over 375 PSI which my unit is designed to run at 395. First pass sugar went int at 1.7 and came out at 2.8 according to refractometer. Re circulation valve/bottom valve was completely closed and high pressure top valve only opened about 1/8 turn. Maybe some of you guys can tell me what I was doing wrong. Every time I checked permeate it was showing .1, so I am concerned I have a bad membrane.

Yes that is a definite possibility having a bad O ring but at 375 psi I would think it would be running about 8 gallons of permeate to 2 gallons of concentrate. I shouldnt have higher concentrate flow rates with raw sap than permeate at 350+ psi.

I'm not sure what your calling recirc valve? But normally when you start up you want about 25% of the flow of concentrate leaving the vessel and 75% of the flow of permeate leaving. So let's say you came run 8 gals of min of total flow through both flow gauge meters you want to open up concentrate to flow 2 GPM and permeate is no control and that should be like 6 GPM.

Now the higher the psi on the vessel the flow rates will rise accordingly. Best off to not horse the concentrate and let that flow at say 3 and permeate will be about 5 but these numbers will be at max flow rates I am figuring on around 500 gph. You may loose a whisker of sugar at first but it will tighten up soon after the first use and then you will be .0 wash after using and you should be OK.

Re-reading post if concentrate is higher then permeate close down on valve that controls the concentrate output off the vessel and you will see the flow rate go up in the permeate leavingthe vessel and the concentrate level should fall

Without even touching the high pressure pump setting this should happen as described above.

Kevin I know you are a RO expert along with about everything else in Maple and I appreciate your help. That's the problem is I can run the psi all the way up to almost 400 psi and it still won't get the concentrate above permeate flow. I am running about 10 to 12 gallon a minute with about 7 gallons concentrate and 5 gallons permeate. At 300 psi it should be probably 6 permeate and 4 concentrate. At 400 psi I would guess it should be closer to 8 to 2 with raw sap. It's like it won't go through membrane.

Is your recirculating pump working? What brand is this ro? What kind of the pimp os the high pressure? What size membranes / quantity?

It is a deer run RO by Ray Gingerich. It does not have a recirculation pump, but a valve that allows you to recirculate concentrate flow back through high pressure pump. It is a 500 gph unit with one 8" membrane and a 600 psi fiberglass vessel.

I think it could be as simple as a valve in the wrong position.
