I would do a mid season short 15-30 min acid wash and then at end of season a long/ 1-2 hr acid wash. This is done after a soap wash and when done with acid wash do another soap.

If you have a lot of Red maple trees then really watch your benchmark like a hawk or do an acid 2-3x just to stay ahead of it. I know of a few that went downhill without doing the program.

Never seen the need to run the long acid wash at the end of the season/just done it as part of maintaince. But have heard of a producer that had let acid wash sit for 24hrs that did help flow rates recover some/but not all the way back to 100%.

For acid wash, let it set overnight before flushing out and washing with soap.

Like those instructions. "Add .88 of acid to 25 gallons of water." .88 what?

Wiam that .88 is less then 1% Acid concentration is the way I understand what you want to know.

Brandon don't beat yourself up. As I have said earlier go by what the MEMBRANE MANFACTURE'S recommend for your membrane. They are the ones that probably have tested things many times and know what is best for the membrane not what joe blow from idaho thinks is best.

First recommendation by FILMTEC XLE is Hydrochloric Acid and Second Recommendation is Muriatic Acid for an acid wash. Go look at the membrane cleaning PFD's from Dow.

And I think Citric might be #3 choice of recommendation? Have not looked in many years at the sheets but you can find out quickly by searching dow's website.

Kevin,

Thanks yes Dow recommends HCI first and also citric acid can be used. Probably why Ray sells citric acid because it is in powder form and can be shipped easily and thus why he says to leave it in membrane for up to 4 weeks because it takes longer to work.
