Default RO Soap Help

I need a little help.
I just found out that RO soap is considered a hazardous substance and is a little tough to ship.

I called Leader to order both the soap and citric acid and was told that they could ship the citric acid but due to the RO soap being classified as a hazardous substance they could not ship that.

I have no dealer close by. Don Russell is about 3 1/2 hr drive north of me, Richard Patterson and the CDL store is about 2 1/2 hours north of me and Henry Brenneman is about 2 1/2 hr west of me. There is no one close by.

Does anyone know how to get the RO soap without driving great distances? Is there any dealer who ships the RO Soap?
Do I "need" the RO soap on hand right now?

I might just have to suck it up and go for a drive, I hope not though.

Sugar bush supplies ships very reasonably. Hazmat fees only apply when shipping large quantities so unless you are needing a pallet of soap it can ship.

Liquid off eBay is where your best deal is going to be. Not powdered like MFG soaps so a pint will probably last you many seasons. Be careful with your first measurements as liquid will be more powerful in strength then the "watered" down powdered MFG stuff.
FedEx ships hazMat stuff.

Ok, did some digging around and found some stuff.
Kevin I wasn't sure what chemicals you were talking about.
I found the Dow filmtec cleaning sheet and it says to use NaOH, Sodium hydroxide as the cleaning solution.
Is this correct? Is this what RO soap truly is?

I found Duda Energy out of Alabama that has Sodium hydroxide for a good price. It is even listed as food grade.

Next thing is that Duda also has citric acid. Question about this is why are we using critic acid to wash the membranes when Dow list muriatic acid/hydrochloric acid as the cleaning solution. Is there a difference between the two that makes one better than the other?

Duda Energy has both muriatic and citric acid so I can get both at the same time.

Yes Naoh was what I was referring too. Not sure how many times I have posted about it but would be almost 100% sure people have seen it if a person looks/read at about every Ro thread posted within the past few years

Actually went looking on eBay for liquid 5 gals containers but did not see company posting that use to sell drums. But plenty of powder for over 1/2 off of what the Mfg sell it for. As you have seen on Dow website it is first choice reference over citric which is usually 2nd recommendation.

HCI is used for the acid wash.

Thanks Kevin for the info.

I was curious about the muriatic/citric acid thing because I kind of figured that they would do the same thing but why would the maple equipment dealers sell citric acid when the membrane manufacture says that muriatic acid is the best choice.

Still #1 recommended by Dow is hydrochloric over muriatic.

Like mentioned before some if these start up RO mfgs makes me laugh. Go by what the membrane manufacture says as that is what your investment that can go south in a hurry if you flub up.

Back to the rum research.
