Default Building an ro

I'm Thinking of building a 250 gal/hr ro.Talked to Joe at Atlantic ro for some tips about membranes but he wouldn't go out on a limb. What should I use nf270's nf90's or xle4040's? I was going to order a procon series 5,but he said all I need is a series 4. What hp would I need for series 4 pump? I'm sure I'll be asking you ro builders alot of questions'so I any help is appreciated. Thanks Jim

go with the xle's they are a little more bullet proof than the nf series. also you have to ask if you are going to expand to a bigger system.... that will determine the pump and motor.

I like the price of the xle's $223. I may expand to a three membrane unit in the future after I see how it works, or may go with a commercial sap unit with re-circulation.

I like the xle membranes. I do not believe you will get 250 gallons/hr from one. Right after a wash I can push 300 with 2 in my old memtek. This does not have a "recirculation pump" but does recirculate. This is with pressures over 400psi. I don't think you can get that out of a procon. I think you would be closer to 100gal/hr.

disclaimer: I have not tried what you are trying to do

Wiam, planed on starting by using 2 membranes to get 250 gal / hr.Will a procon boost pressure if I add a feed pump or will it just max at 250 psi?

I am building one quite soon that will have 3 membranes. I will be using a procon 5 and will be using the H20 membranes. Putting together a list of stuff into an email format.

I use a utility pump to feed my head tank rated at 1260 gph. Will this be sufficient to feed my home built ro with procon series 4 pump? Should the pre-filter be before or after high pressure pump ? Plan on using a 2.5 x 20,not sure what psi it is rated at

you would want your filter before your high pressure pump

Last year I pick up an older Spingtech ro and used it for the frist time 2012 season. With the help of 3% (everyone knows Dave) we plumb it up from sap room to Ro to head tank. Than when I'm done RO ing raw sap, It is plumb up so I can just unhook feed line from raw sap tank and swing it over to a fitting we put in at the head tank and recirculate concentrate again. So evan with a small home built RO this is another option! The thing we don't talk about alot is evan with an RO you still have the time it takes to RO in your daily schedule, Unless your RO will stay a head of your evaporator. Only differance is alot less stress, less wear and tear on evaporator and way less fuel!

Another thing is to build it big enough the frist time! Both 3% and M Farmal are adding another membrane for 2013 season.

I got alot of my parts already, started building the cabinet and installing the components.I'm starting out with 2 membranes but making it expandable for 3. Were can I get a low pressure switch? When I plumb the vessels I will run the concentrate side in series, can I run the permeate side parallel to save on the piping? I'll post some pics when I get a chance.
