Not too sure about buddy sap in Peterborough, maybe in the soft maples. My sap was just starting to be a little off today. I think you guys out there are good for a bit yet.

I got Peterborough from the latest OMAFRA maple update so it could be just a single producer that reported it.

I boiled on Saturday but shut things down early. Sweet in the pans was getting way too dark for my liking. Ended up emptying the pans, cleaning them, and will re-sweeten later this week. Bulk tanks, transfer pump, & lines all washed down and all buckets emptied waiting on the next run after this hard freeze yet again. Will use some of this down time to catch up on bottling and wood splitting. Wouldn't you know it... I can rarely get elm for the house wood stove but the extra cords I just had delivered (and have to split small) is 80% elm. Good for heat but miserable to split. Tentatively planning on pulling taps the weekend of April 16 & 17 but will wait to see what the weather does before committing to it. Expect this weekend to be yet another busy one.

My farm website paid for itself again this year. Had a lady contact me through the site to buy 12 liters of amber and some sugar. Cool!

Uh-oh... looks like next Wednesday will be my last boil. Long range forecast for next Friday calling for 22 degrees (72 F). I won't get sap through to Saturday without spoiling in those temps.

I think either way, what looked like a disaster season back in Feb, turned out pretty well.

Since my crop is mainly soft maple, I pulled the plug. The sugars look pretty good still, but I don't have enough sap in 70 buckets to fire up the evap again.

Time to clean up, take take break and start thinking about next season :)

Will do Bryan, I look forward to it. All the best to you and the rest of the gang for a great end to the season.

In Caledon/Orangeville the sap was clear this weekend. I had a huge boil, scrambling to get through 3000 liters of sap before Sunday night - Now everything will be frozen through Saturday, and then temps jump up to 20c. So it might be the end of my season, or I may jump back in for a quick boil this weekend.

Thanks Chuck and you keep plugging away at your maple set up. You are difinately in a good area for it.

I have likely turned out about 1/3 of my sap this year simply because I couldn't keep up and/or boil more than three full days each week. Everything is empty and clean right now including my pans but expecting another heavy run tomorrow. That will set me up to boil through the weekend with Wednesday expected to be my last day. Forecast has dropped temps for next week but no freezing after Tuesday. Still planning on packing it in next weekend but that's negotiable.
