The sap will run well in the middle of next week - but we need the buds to stay dormant so its worthwhile boiling it.

I'm done as of Friday. My sugar bush is quite wet now, lots of mud as well. The buds are popping in certain parts of the bush, and the last time out to empty buckets showed a lot of yellow. I dumped most of it. While there may be some sap running for some, I can't even get to the back 40 with the road being flooded. Good luck to those of you still working...

Default Is it Over ?

The magic eight ball might be a little less accurate than the forecast. I was out looking at my taps and there are a few drips (the Rain started just after I got there). We might be lucky and get another run.

It was running a bit for me yesterday, mid-afternoon. At the time, it was 8 degrees and there had not been a freeze for a few days. It ran for at least an hour before I had to leave. Is it the magic of 3/16 or are the sap gods smiling on me?

After a loooong boil Saturday I expected to get to the woods yesterday and have a leisurely day doing a short boil and to boil the evaporator through. I drove around to check the tanks - and the sap was still coming! In total we ended up with 0.8 GPT for the day and one bush ran more like 1.2 GPT! Another late night but it's worth it. I'm still hopeful that we'll get more later in the week thanks to the cold snap that's coming.

It isn't over until the "Fat Lady", Buddy sings! When she does the sugar house stinks and you know it is time to pack it in.
