I have to ask tho.......sugar on snow with sour pickles ? Is that a Vermont thing that is still going on ?

Great video, thanks. What year was that filmed? Maybe late 50's or early 60's?

Don't know if it is solely a Vermont thing, but it is still common around here. The sour pickles cut the sugar.....so you can continue eating more of the sugar on snow.

I always listen to the good Dr and highly value his experience and knowledge. HOWEVER, I think I'll just take his word on sour pickles with sugar on snow and pass on trying that one !

It is not just a Vermont thing. I remember "wax on snow" parties here in Northern NY where dill pickles were served on a large plate right beside the dishpan of snow and "wax"

this dill pickle/sugar on snow thing makes sense...like chocolate covered bacon, it's the sweet and salty. looking forward to trying this!
