Default .....and you think squirrel chews are bad !

There are 5 of these reds at my Mother's on the canal. This is the smallest , the beaver has chewed on all of them in the last few days. Must be he has a sweet tooth as sap is running !

Normally this canal and lake is frozen solid this time of the year . I've had my truck on the lake Thanksgiving weekend before ice fishing . Tip up town ( huge carnival on ice) is 3rd weekend in January but the only ice up here is in the freezer. I seen 2 boats on the lake today. Unheard of 2 days before Christmas.

Looks like it's time for some creative set making and some well placed conibears.

Leg hold drowning sets is what we prefer for river beaver in my area. Those giant rats will girdle a 20-30 inch red oak and a occasional hard maple or two every year on my farm. The real problem is the hundreds of saplings that are cut down and what is left behind is a perfect spear that is about a foot tall and impossible to see with 2 feet of snow on the ground. Not cool when your cutting firewood with a tractor with 2- 800 dollar tires on the rear and 2- 400 dollar tires on the front.

Bob, have your wife set out tonight with night vision goggles and a 12 ga. That should do the trick too!
