bow comes in down here on Sat the 3rd, then small game, turkey, etc. you name it the rest of the month. I was reading this month's outdoor life and they nailed it by saying October is the greatest month...

If your a sportsman I would have to agree 100%. You get picture perfect scenery, temps are perfect, fishing, hunting, fall harvest. It should be law that every man, woman and child get the whole month off from work.

We are in the southern zone here. Today I worked on my shooting house, new this year, to help reduce the number of deer in my blueberries. I built an elevated 6x6 platform, 9' off the ground. It is a 6x6 platform, with the corners cut off on a 45, leving 4 sides of 4' wide and the 4 corners are about 18" wide. I set the trusses today, but didn't get the plywood and roofing on yet. Each 4' side will have a 12" x 24" plexiglass horizontal window and each 18" side gets the same size but vertical, for bow shots.
Last year we took 4 in season, then got 3 nuisance permits and shot 3 more. Those permits were all filled, but would have expired 3/31, on 4/1, on my way home from the sugarhouse I looked at an open field between 2 blueberry fields, there were still 9 deer in that field, and I have no idea how many more were eating the blueberry buds.
This year, besides me, I have no fewer than 7 others who will be helping shoot as many as we can get.
For here, archery open 10/1.
