I done a Haynes,,,,,,, forgot to open the valve from flue pan to syrup pans. It flamed up. Soaking in oven cleaner over night so now to lots of elbow grease.
Thanks to all the concerns and tips from friends.

I have a couple of short boards that say "open transfer valve" on them. One goes on the arch door at shutdown, and the other goes on the woodpile.
I also have a written checklist that I run thru before I light the fire.

Number one is "Open head tank valve"
Number two is "Check float operation"
Number three is "Get defoamer ready" (thawed)
Number four is "Check sap level in flue pan"
Number five is "Check syrup pan level"
Uncover stacks, check alarms and head tank level warning lights, fill head tank, get pumps(s) hooked up, un thawed and primed, make sure the sap filter is not frozen or disassembled,

If sap's running right now just clean it up as good as you can, get the majority of the burned on material off with elbow grease/over night soak and put it back into service. This happened to me two years ago and I had quite a bit of residual burn material left on, it didn't affect the syrup at all which was my concern. I let it soak for a week at the end of the season in vinegar and water and it cleaned right up.

Haynes,,,,,, thanks from a veteran. I love those colors and they don't run.
