Default All psyched up - for nothing??

Not sure about this - 250 taps in since the 3rd of March. Weather was mostly cold including some below zero before that. Now, it has warmed up to 50s and even 60s with 20s at night for the past three days. Total sap collected so far ........ 3 gallons. yes, 3 gallons. Now the forecast calls for temps to stay above freezing for 6 days then back to freeze-thaw cycles. What does everybody think? Am I going to get a season even? Will my taps dry up (never really have been wet yet) during a week of above freezing temps?
Pretty worried here - I really don't think there is a chance of my sugars budding in this week of warm, but ??????

I sooo hear you sk8heaven. At least you have the OPPORTUNITY for freezing temps sometime I went out today with a low last night/this morning of …….33-32* I collected a lousy 1.5 gallons of sap off of 87 taps. No freezing temps in the 10 day for sure.

Welcome to Farming. Hate to say it but without vacuum I think the trees are keeping the sap.

Haynes, this is something that i've wondered about…..if the sap isn't flowing up (or is it STAYING up?) into the tree, where will the tree get it's nourishment from??

Well I kinda got lucky. Went to check the taps today before I started cooking and ended up collecting about 700 gallons! They must have ran all day Sunday since we last collected sat nite. Now its to bad that I have way more than I can cook. I. Guess I will just keep at it until it spoils.

None of us are getting anything. Even vacuum guys are getting very little. I only boiled becuase a friend gave me 65 gallons of sap to add to my 25. This year will go down as one of the worst yrs ever and it is spread from Dent MN to Ashland WI and as far down as Ellsworth. A guy there puts out 3000 taps and has had nothing.
So don't feel bad you are not alone.
