It is true about this year not being normal, our best sap run of the season was Saturday night into Sunday, pulled 25 gal of sap off 30 taps. I boiled everything I had yesterday, 40 gallons of sap in the basement of the barn and with the 25 out of the woods i made about 1.5 gallons of syrup.

I had hoped that the sap would keep coming, but this morning half the bags were empty with next to nothing in the rest. Also, it was sad to see buds opening on the sugar maples.

Default A little salvation

The frost went out three days ago and I have been collecting 100-150 gallons of sap for the last three days! Even with no freezing and daytime temps in the mid 60's. It looks like I will be able to meet my regular customers needs after all. Now if those buds will just hold out for a couple more days - but I think I may be done this weekend as the poplar have budded - the pussywillows are out and the Basswoods are budding now too.. Pretty dismal year but thankful that I managed to eek out 10 gallons or so.

S8heaven, good to hear you're getting some syrup made. Funny to see bemidji on here, I've got a friend making a career out of going to school at the university there.

Default Done

Trees budded on Saturday so my year consisted of 4 days of sap, 6.5 gallons of syrup from my 250 taps. Pretty poor year but I am just taking what I learned this year and looking forward to a saptastic year next year.
