We fell just short of our 100 gallon goal, but that includes late fall tapping too, so we're happy to have made what for us is a lot, but disappointed to fall a tad shy.
We'll get that goal next year, I know it.
take care, Mark

Tapped new bush on 2/7/16 324 taps, all 3/16 boiled 6645 g of 1.7% out of the 7900 g gathered.
Tapped home bush on 2/21/16 230 taps all 5/16 with 23" of vacuum. Gathered 3985g of 1.5% sap.
Stopped boiling on 3/30/16 but gathered 1255g of sap from new bush and gave to some other local producers.
Made 190 g of syrup mostly amber and dark. Excellent buttery flavored amber pre warm up,fair carmelly lite maple flavor dark post warm up.
The season ended up being all right, thought early on that I was only going to make 1/2 crop.Ended up at full crop. I was very happy with my new sugar bush (Sudzy's Hillside Sugarbush).I was able to pay for it the first season with the syrup made from it.I paid $2000 for the 2.5 acre piece, closing was $1500 and I figure I made 131 g of syrup at $50/g. I have $1800 in tubing, taxes, tank, no labor figured in.$6550-5300=$1350 profit. That's wrong I had to buy a pump to empty tank and fill truck tank. Bought a 1" harbor freight pump for $130 with a 20% coupon. I'm not a fan of harbor freight but this pump worked flawlessly. So I only made $1220 profit. Cant figure out why my Wife is so pi$$ed about the purchase, probably should have told her about it sooner. Tune in later to as the sugarbush turns.

Made 8 1/2 gallons off of 49 1/2 taps! I was shooting for 10 gallons in total, but had some early season problems that resulted in dumping some sap! Next year will be different and I am sure will bring new and exciting problems to overcome!
