Default 2015 Minnesota spring season updates

We are tapping this week-end. Looks like the weather is going to change and we are close enough to the magic March 15th date.

We are planning to tap in Stearns county this weekend as well. Extended forecast has 50's and we don't want to miss any early flow.

Default Starting to tap

We will be tapping this weekend as well at the Hungry Beaver Sugar Camp in Morrison County. Planning on 300 taps. With our new boiling house we are excited to get it going!

Default Start your Engines!

We will be tapping this weekend. Can't wait for another sapping season to start! Warmer temps on the way. Just wish we had a little more snow this winter but oh well. It will be fun either way. Wish I could take the next month and a half off work to go sapping everyday.

Default retired with friends

I am blessed. I get to spend the entire sap season in the woods with the camp only 10 minutes from home. With the camp I can spend a lot of time right in the woods, collecting, sleeping, eating and boiling. Kinda like deer camp but no 5:30 AM getting into the tree stand. I have many friends who all enjoy coming out to help with the work load. Being retired is great and having a wife who enjoys sapping (to a point) is also pretty darn good. Sapping is a great time to be back in the woods! Plus, you can turn the whole world "off" for a while with all of its problems. Hope its a good season, lots of people counting on free syrup!

Default Tapping 3-7-15

Plan on tapping all 350 tomorrow - first time in 4 years that I can actually get around in the woods up here - only about 6 inches of snow compared to the usual 2 feet lately. Now if I could only control the outdoor thermostat .........

I am tapping all 100 taps today. The extended forecast is just too good to be true. One can only hope that the sapping God is with us. Last year's snowpack was horrendous. It's only about 12-18" up here in Bayfield Co. WI this year. I also have a lot more time to devote to sugaring this spring and am really looking forward to a good season. Best of luck to you all!
