Surprisingly heavy drip today. Maybe because of the snow coming tonight. First batch from 85 gallons of sap finished. Decent yield. 12 quarts from 85 gallons. Filtering had though. More black sediment than usual to plug the filters.

pulled 120 gallons yesterday and that much again is in the tanks from the afternoon. Looks like a good day as well. Most of the sap from the 100 taps we have on vacuum.

I didn't empty yesterday and had sacks overflowing today. Both sugars and boxy. 80 gals off 64 taps. Pulled the last boxy taps and moved to the sugars. After emptying the sugars and going home to pump into the tank, I went back and the bags had 3-4" back in them. Tomorrow is going to kick a--!!!!!.

Going to have to quit this week. Just have too many other things I have to take care of. As of this morning I have collected 261 gallons from 24 taps and bottled 34 quarts. So it is running about 31 to 1 this year on average for me. A lot better on all sides than I expected due to lack of a normal winter. This week sounds like a bust with warm temps anyway and only sporadic cold nights for the next week or so. Good luck to the rest you that are hanging in there!

The last 4 tanks on my wheeler were running 4%. I never had this before! I have also noticed that I need less sap per gallon of syrup this year. Right around 32. Temps are bad right now but better Fri -Tues. probably done Sun or Mon. I should finish with 25 gallons. I was hoping for 30 but I will take what I get!

Default real uneven year

Of my 350 taps, I have 100 or so down along the edge of my swamp - those trees are giving me around 70-100 gallons a day of sap. The other 250 - well, they just don't seem to be applying themselves to the task at hand. Maybe 20 gallons a day. I am guessing it may be because the frost is still in the ground in the woods at higher elevation while the trees along the swamp have access to water? Don't really know for sure. This week looks like it may be the last week for good temperatures here. I do know last year when the frost went out right when the temps got warm that the trees in the deeper woods really let loose - full sap bags for two days in a row and then done. Maybe the same thing this year. The niter has been high. Color has all been very light.

I am pulling my taps tomorrow. I am seeing the same as you as the niter goes. The maples also put out light syrup but my boxelder syrup would be dark amber. Usually the other way around. I only had two days of good sap runs with 75 taps getting 125+ gallons a day. I always ran out of sap each time I boiled, unlike last year when I was dumping it!!! Always different

Frost finally went out yesterday. Trees are all cooperating finally - getting closer to 200 gallons a day at right around 3 per cent - but looks like I will get the rest of the week like this and then the temps will stay above freezing (as is normal for up here it seems). All 20 gallons of syrup are nice and light so far.

Default Finished up

Pulled taps yesterday - 30 gallons was my final total. Spend the weekend cleaning up and planning for next year.
It's always fun when season starts but I have to admit that it feels good when it's over also.
