We put in about 300 in the last two days. Some trees still froze inside. It was -30 here this past week. It'll take a few days to break loose. Tomorrow another 150.

Default 2015 season

I put out 45 taps on my boxelder today. No drippers. I then went to my neighbors that has the sugar maples. Tapped 6 trees and had sap at three of them. Usually the boxys will run first. I want to make 5-6 gallons of boxy gold before I switch to the sugars but if the sugars go good now I may have to reconsider my approach.

We got everything tapped by sunday afternoon. I took internal temperature of several trees and the average was 37 degrees. The guys down the road that do all bags had 4'' in the roadside bags but 30 yards in they had nothing. The road runs east and west. It wont be long now as the temps are looking real good for the next week or so.

Tom,
Anxiously awaiting word on how the lifters work. Got a new releaser idea in the pipeline. Prototype works FANTASTIC. One small glitch to work thru. Ask Terry.

Default Stearns County update

Put our 75 taps in on Sunday 3/8 in Stearns. Most trees on the southern perimeter were dripping, hit and miss with the others. Collected a couple gallons Monday then around 30 gallons on Tuesday. Hoping things continue in the right direction the remainder of the week. Shooting for 100 gals to cook this weekend, the tough part is keeping the supply cool given the lack of snow to pack around the storage barrels.

Default Soon ....

300 + taps in since last weekend, about a dozen of the bags have started to have a few ounces a day and the ones on tubing started to drip a little yesterday. Looks like I may get it soon
Next week the weather looks like mid 40s daytime, mid 20s nightime ..... with any luck I will need to put on the lifejacket because of all the sap

Dumped about 35 gallons of 1.5% sap from the vacuum this morning. Need at least 100 to fire up the evaporator let alone the RO---Almost nothing on the gravity lines.
The plus side the sugar shack has never been this clean!!
