Default Still waiting for first run.

I can't believe it. No sap after 3 days near 50 degrees. Now it is back in the 20s again.
Well l get to enjoy Easter brunch without having to boil.
The worst part is I bet my Brother-in-law I would boil by tonight. Now I owe him a quarter.
Happy Easter.

Leo, i'm feeling your pain as well. Were at 200 gallons total.I was hoping to boil today becauce we have some friends coming up for easter dinner. We still might but can only fire it for an hour or so. On second thought, i really need more sap to do it. It sucks as we both took a week off work to be working up here. I guess I could run more tubing and pickup more trees. Tomorrows another day.

I know I'm from WI, but Lastwoodsman is pretty much right on my latitude….Finally started here in NW WI. Collected 30 gallons from 113 taps. Almost all of the taps were dripping some 1 drip per second. I'll take it!!!

Default It's "gotta" start soon.

My earliest trees were dripping pretty good today. 80% are still dry, but they have to bust loose any second. Cindy, I am 60 miles NW of Woodsman. I drove over there last week and saw his very cool proprty and operation.
I think this weekend we will have a good run.

Still pretty slow up here - 40 gallons of sap total from 170 taps. Barely above freezing in the day. Still keeping my fingers crossed that the floodgates will open soon. A little easier getting around in the woods now that the snow is down to about a foot and a half. I will probably go put in another 30 taps today. Really weird how I have been done sapping by this time the past three years and I am not even really started yet this year. Opening of fishing up here this year may require an ice auger!

Ive got 850 gallons of sap thru last night. Most of the sap is coming from the lower sections. 140 of my taps are on the north facing hill and have not really done much yet. the snow is way deeper up there. As far as the restof the woods ,snow is down to about 8''. Ran the evap. for 7 hours yesterday and made the litest syrup ever for me. Between fancy and lite amber. Nice flavor. Temps look good for upcoming week.

We finally got started on Thursday night. Should have another boil on Monday evening.

Bad news is that we still are not getting great flow, but at least we should do better than last year. Worse news is that we scorched the syrup pan. Combo of too many visitors and air lock in the preheater, plus we were recycling syrup to get darker and that may have messed our gradient some.

But the really good news is that our sap was at 3.5%!!!! And the result was delicious.

Collected 60 gallons today from 300 taps. Still isn't running good and forecast is overcast and rainy for next week I sure hope the weather man is wrong. I don't know if ill get enough to boil before my current sap goes bad. Kinda wish I kept my smaller rig, 60 gallons aint gonna get me boiling on a 3x8 drop flue. Hope it picks up for us here in mn. Sounds like just about everywhere else has had a good season.
