Forecast changed over night to 40's by midweek next week. I am chomping at the bit.

Put up 100 bags started to rain hard. Went to the cabin and spent the afternoon assembling the other 150 bags. No rush now with the weather so cool for the week. Tap holes all dry. I will get the rest of the bags up tomorrow and the vacuum side of things as well.

Terry, did you finish tapping today? Crazy weather, I know you got wet if you were out in the bush today.

Default Snow!

Well now my woods are impassible. We got about 6 inches of snow the consistency of wet cement on top of what we had. I tried to snowshoe out today to set some taps but there are so many obstacles of brush and branches weighted down with snow that it is futile. I have about 125 of 300 in so far. I am going to get some other work done and go back and tap the rest about Thursday. Hopefully by then the snow will recede a little. Looks like no warm weather until after that anyway.

Finished tapping today. Did all the taps on vacuum. I can get around on the ATV. I had trails broke so this last seven inches did not hinder me.
But walking with that two inch crust is a bummer.

Default still not even close to tapping!

Well, as of today my official measurement of snow in the woods is 33". It is not hard enough to go on top of with the 4 wheeler and it is too dense to plow it with the 4 wheeler so........ I am renting a snowblower to open it up a little so that I can get it plowed the rest of the way. I will probably only tap the trees closest to the trail (about 150 instead of 250) for the first part of the season. No temps above 32 through next Sunday the 24th ...... and we are supposed to get.....wait for it...... another 6" of snow on Sunday night. I am just afraid it will go from all of these below normal temps to above normal in a hurry and shorten my season (I am usually already tapped by the 8th of March). I guess maybe this is my punishment for spending this past week in San Diego enjoying the 70 degrees and sunshine!!

Default 300 in the deep snow.

Well, I got 300 taps in as of today. My JD Atv can move on my trails, but I get stuck pretty regularly- thank goodness for the winch. Everything off the trails is on snowshoes. Itis snowing again now and we may get another 6 -10 on Monday. Don't think I will see any sap for at least a week.
Good luck, hoping for a nice long run.
