Default Coated or uncoated and do you treat the molds?

This is my first year with collecting sap and making syrup. Through trial and error, I think I have learned how to make pretty good tasting syrup. Now I want to try making some candy.
I've been reading this section of the forum and learning about how to make the candy, but I have a couple questions which I did not find in my search.
I have silicone molds. Of course, they are not leaf shaped because I've never made maple anything before. Will they work? I've read about rubber molds. Do you treat the molds with anything first, non-stick spray or anything?
Also, what are the advantages of coating and not coating your candy? Is the majority of maple candy coated?
Thanks!

Silicone is fine
No need to spray anything in molds, just rinse after use with water
Uncoated 2-3 week shelf life, coated 4-6 month shelf life

Thanks. Are here any directions for coating the candy? Step by step like you did for the candy making?
