Default Maple Nuts

Ok I am going to try my hand at making some maple nuts.

I have some peanuts and almonds.

Where the heck does everyone get their peanuts and almonds? I just picked up a bag of shelled almonds, $6.99 for 12oz!!!!
I bought a 4 lb bag of peanuts in the shell, what a pain to shell out 3 cups worth of peanuts. It was cheaper than shelled peanuts but I just wasted an hour of my life shelling them!

Was that at a grocery store or one of the "bulk" places where you dig stuff outta bins?

i have made some with Almonds, and whit pecans, very good. Best price for nuts around here is Costco.

For who dont know how to do Maple Nuts:

2 cups of nuts
6 oz of Maple Syrup

Dry the nuts in oven at 350F
Boil the syrup to 238-240 F

remove from heat, pour the nuts in and mix whit a wooden spoon
syrup will change from a caramel texture to sugar
put on a parchment paper to cool...

You could add some Cayenne pepper to syrup to have Hot nuts

Dennis,
I buy Planter's 3 lb of dry roasted peanuts, from SAMS club.
places the nuts in a large mixing bowl. (You can sift them to remove small pc in bottom of can.)
Heat syrup, little less that a qt., to at least 240 deg f.
pour syrup over nuts and stir till coated and nuts clumps fall apart.
spread out and cool.
Regards,
Chris

Just a note... Costco quoted by Milan29 would be the same as Sams Club in the States.

Yeah I picked up the nuts at a local grocery store.
We have both Sam's and Costco, I will have to take a trip to one of them next time.

Thanks Milan, That sounds about what I was going to do.
I planned on making them tonight but shelling all those peanuts just took it out of me, I'll make them tomorrow.

As mentioned by Milan29, Costco is good place to get them. I don`t know how close you are to one of their warehouses (stores) but they have them on sale at least once every 4-5 weeks here in Canada. I usually drop in once a week to check. I just purchased on deal a few bags for $9.99 for 40 ounces. The regular price is $11.49.
They have large bags of pecans as well which make for a tasty treat, a little more expensive though.
