Lewis County Maple School with Cornell Cooperative Extension
Maple sugaring season is fast approaching and the public is invited to learn about maple production from leading educators in the field. The Beginner Maple School will be held on Friday night January 23, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Lewis County at the American Maple Museum located on Main Street in Croghan, N.Y. Steve Childs, Cornell University State Extension Maple Specialist will cover this topic from the tree to the container to give you a good introduction to maple syrup production. Participants can attend for a nominal cost of $5 which includes refreshments and materials. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged in order to receive materials. Fee can be paid upon arrival.
Participants can attend the Lewis County Winter Maple School for $15 per person with pre-registration or at the door for $20 that morning. Lunch and materials are included and this event will also be held at the American Maple Museum. This daylong program will cover a wide range of topics including production, grading, marketing, maple tree management, tapping and tubing, and value added maple production. This school with start at 9:00 am on Saturday, January 24, 2015.
