Lake Erie Maple Expo (Albion, PA)
by Bryan Ex August 20th, 2013

If you missed the LEME last November you missed one of the most exciting maple events to come along in years. Planning for the 2013 edition, in November, is underway. LEME Chairman Daryl Sheets reports that we have confirmed some new speakers for 2013. They include Dr Timothy Perkins from University of Vermont Proctor Lab, Steve Childs from Cornell University and Dr. Gary Graham from The Ohio State University. The LEME will once again be held in Albion, Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday November 8, & 9, 2013 at the Northwestern High School. Albion is about 15 miles South of Erie on St Rt. 18 and 6N. Full information available at - Northwest Pennsylvania Maple Association

New this year will be three outdoor workshops on Friday running from 10 am to 2 pm. The first workshop is "Utilizing Vacuum in your Maple Tubing System" presented by Steven Childs and Les Ober. The second workshop is "Tubing Installation" presented by Karl Evans and Glen Goodrich. The third workshop is "Backyard Sugaring" presented by Laura Dengler and Mark Lewis. These work shops are in addition to the Friday evening and Saturday programs. More information will be coming on speakers and topics in the near future. If you don't need a water slide Comfort Suites are the closest with pretty decent facilities. I'll be there again this year - Edinboro Pennsylvania hotels, Comfort Suites hotel near Edinboro University, Edinboro PA 16412

If you have kids or you need a water slide than try splash lagoon in Erie. My kids had a blast last year and we made LEME and splash lagoon a family weekend getaway. Splash Lagoon Indoor Water Park

Ready to make my reservations. Trying to decide if I should make it for Thursday night /Friday night and then drive the 5 hours or so home after Saturday events or leave early Friday morning to make the workshops from 10am-2pm and stay Friday/Saturday. Suggestions?

Can anyone recommend a hotel that is WEST of Albion, PA?
We would be coming from the west on I-90 , and it seems that we would need to just about drive right past Albion to get to the recommended hotels...

LEME

Check our web site pamaple.org. It has a list of motels in the area. There are several in Northeast Ohio.

Austinburg, OH is on I90 and has a few good hotel chains. The Residence Inn in Erie, PA (Millcreek) has 2BR suites for a good price. The Springhill by the Millcreek Mall is nice, too.

Looks like LEME is sponsoring 3 workshops on Friday. Do these workshops run simultaneously or can one person take in more than one? Like the vacuum seminar and the tubing seminar?
