Default barrel stove evaporator

I currently have a barrel stove evaporator and was wondering if anyone has put a baffle or anything to help keep more of the heat in. Also any other tweaks would be greatly appreciated.

Burn pine put a damper in to control draft and stack temp run pan shallow to get a violent boil but be careful also a ventilation fan hooked to a metal dryer vent blown on bottom of fire will tremendously increase boil

When we built our barrel evaporator, we used the section of the drum that was cut out for the pan (we had one larger pan about 1.5 times the size of a steam pan) as a deflector on the inside of the drum. We bolted in to place (after some corner trimming) and covered it with firebrick when we did the chamber. While not perfect, it helped to direct the flames towards the back of the pan.
