Default Fire Brick

What are half bricks? Are they the thinner 1" thick or the full size just cut in half ?
I always hear "half brick" mentioned but really don't have a clue on its meaning.

YUP just 1/2 the thickness . Had a arch that was a home built and if you used a whole brick in the flue area sides it would block the drop flues. Some people call them splits.

Thanks Haynes. I think I will be OK with my masonry arch then, the floor is 4" compacted sand, 1" arch board with a half brick lining. The sides are 6" slit face block filled w/ sand, 1" arch board with a half brick lining. The floor slants upward just like the factory built ones do. Sound OK? This all sits on a concrete floor.
Thanks for the info.
