Default My two handed tubing tool

Ok I have been asked to post the pics of my two handed tubing tool that I made.
I have now used it for over a year now so I can tell you of any issues that I may now have run into with it.

I used your template to make one of these. I didn't get my vise grips lined up right on the first go and had to redo them, Works great though.

I guess the biggest issue that I have run into with this tubing design is that I have the angles slightly wrong witht the handles. When I am trying to put the tubing onto the fitting it will almost be seated when my two hands hit each other.
I have to be sure that I leave enought tubing sticking out towards the center so that the fitting will be seated all the way the 1st time if not I have to undo 1 vise grip and reseat it then try agian to finish seating the tubin the rest of the way.

The sliding mechinism to keep the clamps parrallel work flawlessly, I love how that part turned out.

I am also finding that with some of the new tubing and tubing fittings out there that it is getting tougher to seat some fittings into the tubing. But I am hearing this from others who have spent several hundred dollars on a tubing tool.

I clamped a round bar thru each clamp when I was welding them to the handles.

I had already had the pivoting bases on the handles along with the slides. So I took a 6 inch long bolt that I had and clamp each clamp to each end of the bolt. Now the two clamps will be held inline with each other.
I then layed them up on the slide base and tacked them to it. Took out the long bolt/bar and check everything for alignment and smooth working.
Made any adjustments then finished welding.

I am also working on another version of tubing tool.
Once I get some of the design done I will post it here.

what are the round things that actually grip the tubing called? Where can they be found, and how so you get the tubing out of them once the fitting is in place?
You should make another set and sell them!

They are a coupling for threaded rod.
What I did was cut them in half length wise, the material removed from cutting should be enough to make a good grip on the tubing but if you feel you need more then file a little more.
I them clamped the two halves back together and used a drill bit to drill out half of the coulping. This is so there is room for the fitting barbs and tubing to fit.
I then welded each half to jaw of the vise grips.
Open visegrips put tubing into the opened gripper, I leave about 1/4 sticking out the side where the fitting will go. Close visegrips.
Now it is ready to put the fitting in.
