Wow, now I feel like a true farmer. That was the prices back when I got big enough to sell bulk in the early 90's. Welcome to corporate maple.

I remember a conversation a few years with Dr Tim saying the bottom would come in 4-5 years. Well his timeline was just about spot on. Time to separate the true sugar makers from the wannabes.

I remember when I got $1.60/lb for a 55 gallon drum of medium amber. I knew there was money in maple then

I guess that is one way to look at it. I see a different picture. I want to make syrup till I am in the ground, or with the Lord. In my neck of the woods, with very low sugar %, little snowfall compared to most regions, it gets pretty tough to produce a gallon of syrup for much under $20..00 .. Now I am not saying it can't be done, but the margins for error is really small.I know the answer is to Not sell bulk & retail it, but I have a hard time investing the time into that. Guess for now ,I will look for a 4th job to help pay for syrup making.
